General Information on Indonesian and International Driver’s Licences

Indonesian driver’s licence

Australian citizens in Jakarta who wish to apply for an Indonesian driver’s licence should contact the POLDA (Police Regional Office) whose jurisdiction covers the area of their domicile.

General requirements for applying for an Indonesia driver’s licence are as follows:

• Original and a copy of your Australian Driver’s Licence

• Original and a copy of your Indonesian ID Card – “KITAS”

• Original and a copy of your passport

• Health Certificate issued by a Police doctor in POLDA

• Cash payment in the approximate range of IDR250,000.00 to IDR350,000.00

International driver’s licence

Effective April 2011, International Driving Licences are NO longer processed at IKATAN MOTOR INDONESIA (IMI or Indonesian Motor Club). This process is now done directly at Korps Lalu Lintas POLRI (Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps):

Enquiries on the requirements or process of obtaining the International Driver’s Licence should be directed to Korps Lantas Polri by visiting their website at www.lantas.polri.go.id or by contacting them at the above number.

General requirements for foreigners to apply for an International Driver’s License at Korps Lantas POLRI are:

• Applicant is a Resident of Indonesia for a minimum of 5 (five) years

• A supporting letter from the applicant’s respective Embassy

• Completed application form (provided and completed at the time of lodgement)

• Original Indonesian driver’s licence plus 2 (two) copies

• Original passport plus 2 (two) copies

• 3 (three) 4x6 photos (recent), blue background, applicant to wear a tie (male) or blazer (female)

• Original KTP/KITAS plus 2 (two) copies

• 1 (one) IDR 6.000 materai (duty stamp)

• Cash payment of approximately IDR 250,000.00 (new licence) and IDR 225,000.00 (renewal)

• A processing time of approximately 1 (one) -2 (two) working days, depending on the workload of the day
