Radio Kookaburra Celebrates 10 Years Promoting Friendships

Radio Kookaburra celebrates its 10 year anniversary this month with features on the strong cooperation between Australia and Indonesia on climate change, science, education and culture.

The monthly program is aired through partnerships with more than 100 radio stations across Indonesia, with listeners from Aceh to Papua tuning in to enjoy stories depicting the rich and diverse links both countries share.

This month featured the opening of Strike A Chord – The Science of Music, an exciting and innovative science education exhibition being held at PP-IPTEK (Indonesia’s National Science and Technology Centre) in cooperation with Australia’s National Science and Technology Centre, Questacon.

“The Strike a Chord exhibition is just one of the many ways Australia and Indonesia collaborate in the science, education and cultural sphere,” Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Bill Farmer said.

“We are delighted that through Radio Kookaburra, listeners throughout Indonesia can get to hear about the many activities Australians and Indonesians are undertaking together – as close neighbours, partners and friends,” Mr Farmer said.

Mr Farmer thanked Radio Kookaburra’s partner stations and listeners for their support and said he looked forward to hearing many more stories of friendship over coming years.

Radio Kookaburra is named after the native Australian kingfisher bird popularly known for its raucous laugh. Programs are also available online through podcasts at: www.indonesia.embassy.gov.au/jaktindonesian/radio.html.
