Celebrating Australian Alumni and the Australia Awards Scholarships

Media Release

25 April 2024

Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Penny Williams PSM, hosted a halalbihalal for more than 300 Australian alumni in Jakarta on 24 April.

Senior alumni leaders representing government, business, media, the creative economy, and not-for-profit sectors joined Ambassador Williams for silaturahmi, celebrating the close friendship between Australia and Indonesia.

"Australia is so proud of our alumni community in Indonesia, and of the important role they are playing in their workplaces, organisations and local communities, shaping the future of this country," Ambassador Williams said.

Australia has the largest alumni network in Indonesia, with well over 200,000 alumni across the archipelago. Australian alumni are a diverse and remarkable group of thinkers and leaders, who are making a difference in their communities.

"As Australia and Indonesia celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations, it is our alumni community who embody the warm friendship and enduring ties between the people of our two countries,” said Ambassador Williams.

“I am delighted to gather with our Australian alumni family today in the spirit of silaturahmi," added Ambassador Williams.

Nominations are open now for the Australian Alumni Awards. The awards recognise outstanding achievement by Australian alumni leaders in Indonesia. Nominations in the categories of Alumni of the Year, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and Women’s Empowerment and Social Inclusion will close on 29 April.

Australia's scholarships program, Australia Awards, is the longest running foreign scholarships program in Indonesia. Applications for the prestigious Australia Awards PhD and Masters Scholarships are open now until 30 April.

Applications for the Australia Awards Nusantara Scholarships are also open now until 12 May. The Nusantara Scholarships were announced by the President of Indonesia and the Prime Minister of Australia in 2023 for Indonesian scholars to study at Monash University Indonesia in fields relevant to the development of the new capital.
